SHILLONG: A matriculate, a physician and few academicians form part of the 12-members Meghalaya Cabinet.
The educational qualifications of the Cabinet members vary as per the records available.
At the same time, the oldest member in the Cabinet is Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh who is 73 years old, while 31-year-old Sniawbhalang Dhar is the youngest members of the Cabinet.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is the only MBBS degree holder from among the Cabinet members.
Dr Sangma (47) completed his MBBS degree from the Regional Institute for Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal in 1989.
Power Minister Clement Marak (51) is a matriculate. He passed his matriculation from St Anthony’s High School in 1977.
Deputy Chief Minister Prof RC Laloo and Urban Affairs Minister Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh are two Cabinet members who hold PhDs.
Prof Laloo (62) received his PhD from Gauhati University in 1981 after having completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Gauhati University in 1969 and 1972 respectively.
Ampareen (48) was awarded PhD by NEHU in 2012. She completed her BA from Delhi University in 1988 and then her MA from Jamia Milia Islamia University in 1990.
Those in the Cabinet with Bachelor Degrees include Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, HDR Lyngdoh, Zenith M Sangma, Roshan Warjri and Deborah C Marak.
Rowell completed his BA from Gauhati University in 1966.
Tynsong (47) completed his B.Com from NEHU in 1989.
HDR Lyngdoh completed his BA from St Anthony’s College in 1974.
Zenith (41) completed his degree from Tura Government College in 1996.
Warjri (63) completed her BA with distinction from Lady Keane College in 1967.
48-year-old Deborah completed her degree from Shillong College in 1986.
The other two members of the Cabinet, Sniawbhalang Dhar and AL Hek Dhar, are under-graduates. Dhar has completed his Higher Secondary course while Hek completed his Pre-University from St Anthony’s College in 1986.
