SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will hold a review meeting on the public transport system of the city on Wednesday with all the operators of the Government sanctioned vehicles.
Lyngdoh on Monday informed that the issue relating to ticketing will be discussed in the meeting as there are various complaints that conductors of the Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses do not issue tickets to the passengers.
Other issues to be taken up at the meeting includes the safety of passengers and pedestrians as many times the Government-run buses and maxi taxis are found to indulge in rash driving.
The meeting would also discuss the routes of the public transport system since many localities in the city are yet to be covered either by the buses or the maxi taxis. The meeting would also deliberate on the behaviour and etiquette of the bus drivers and conductors.
The meeting is likely to take a call on the fate of the twenty buses which are yet to be pressed into service on long-distance routes.
It may be mentioned that presently one hundred SPTS buses, twenty SSTS buses and 127 maxi taxis are being operated in the city by the State Government and different self help groups.
