SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit banged the table after he was agitated with the reply of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh during Question Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Basaiawmoit had raised a supplementary question whether there is a process going on to segregate the waste at source.
In her reply, Ampareen called upon the HSPDP legislator to ask his people not to litter near the rivers. Agitated by this reply, Basaiawmoit said the Minister cannot blame the people of his constituency for littering the spaces along the rivers.
“The Minister has no right to insult me this way. I have been elected by the people to raise issues which are affecting the State,” the HSPDP legislator said.
He further warned that he would not tolerate this kind of unruly behavior by the Minister in future.
“If we treat the members in the treasury bench with respect we also expect the same from them,” Basaiawmoit said. In her reply, Ampareen said, “I had only urged upon my fellow legislator to actively participate in the waste management programme for a clean Meghalaya.”
