SHILLONG: Arunachal Pradesh defeated Assam 2-0 on the third day of Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament 2013, which was played at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday.

Arunachal Pradesh dominated the proceedings and took the lead when Toko Polium found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to give his side the lead.

Assam pressed hard to find the much needed equaliser but were not able to convert any of their opportunities.

Arunachal Pradesh doubled the advantage when Toko Polium claimed his second goal with a powerful shot in the 72nd minute.

With this win, Arunachal showed how well they have improved in spite of being the underdogs of the tournament by getting the better of one of the powerhouses of football in the North East, Assam.

They have also kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the semifinals with this win.

On Friday they will play Nagaland, while Meghalaya will take on Assam.
