Kidnapped teachers rescued

SHILLONG: Two teachers, who were kidnapped by unidentified miscreants in West Garo Hills on Tuesday, were rescued by the police on Wednesday.

According to police, the teachers – Maklefur Rahman of UP school new Baitabari and Mominul Islam from Paradanga, UP School in West Garo Hills – who were travelling in a motorcycle were waylaid by armed miscreants on Tuesday and subsequently they were kidnapped at gun point.

Police said that on Wednesday morning, the family members received a call from the miscreants demanding ransom for the release of the teachers.

Late on Wednesday evening, the Officer in charge of Daddengre police station tracked down the miscreants and rescued the teachers. However, police could not arrest the miscreants.
