TURA: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all commercial vehicles Association, Garo Hills has threatened to call a chakka bandh for all commercial vehicles on April 2 and 3 if the Government failed to address their grievances.
The JAC said that it has submitted a letter stating the problems faced by the commercial vehicles to the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills.
Issues like illegal plying of the Tura Public Transport Service (TPTS) buses and non receipt of bill payment for requisitioned vehicles etc. are among the prime concerns.
The JAC pointed out that according to an earlier condition accepted at a meeting held with the Deputy Commissioner in October, 2011, the TPTS buses were to ply only within the municipality area, that is, from Tura to Baromile, Tura to Rongram and Tura to Damalgre.
However, the TPTS buses extend their services up to Dalu, Garobadha and Jengjal, which is affecting other commercial vehicles plying on the same route, the JAC said.
Allegedly, the fare of the TPTS buses, as directed by the Government, should have been at Rs 0.60 to 0.75 paise per km. However, the buses were charging more than Re 1 per km.
The JAC also alleged that the TPTS buses are being hired for wedding parties, picnics and other such events even as they were meant to render service to the general public only.
Further, the JAC has alleged that the concerned Authorities which have requisition their vehicles for law and order duties like CRPF, Army operations etc., have not paid the bills against the requisitioned vehicles.
