SHILLONG: Purple Rain Entertainment Pvt Ltd defeated MeECL by a small margin of six runs in the final of the Inter Office cum Corporate T-20 Cricket tournament 2013, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at Polo Grounds on Thursday.

Purple Rain, after winning the toss and electing to bat, were restricted to 99-8 in 20 overs after they were in a good position at 40 for no loss after five overs. Peter Anglican scored 23 and Raja Marboh 18, while Rapbor Kharnaior took 3-16 in three overs.

In reply, MeECL lost three quick wickets but stabilised to reach 77-5 at one stage. The loss of set batsman Sany F Swer, who made a polished 43, dashed their hopes as other batsmen could not withstand the bowling of Abhay Dikshit, who demolished them with figures of 4-8 in four overs.

Dikshit claimed the Man-of-the-Match award, while Swer was named Man-of-the-Series.

Man-of-the-Match awards for the semifinals were also presented, with Johnny John, of MeECL and Rajib Rai, of Purple Rain, bagging the prizes.

The winning team pocked Rs 10,000, while the runners-up received Rs 6,000.
