SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education Prof RC Laloo’s statement attributing the non-payment of salaries of teachers to the non-submission of utilization certificates (UCs) by the schools has gathered much criticism from the teaching community of the State, who have termed the statement as false and baseless.

The teachers under the banner of the Khasi Jaintia deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) along with the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (GHDSTEA) on Thursday also set a March 26 deadline for disbursal of pending salaries since December, while threatening to abstain from correction of the SSLC papers, besides calling back those teachers who have already done the correction.

The teachers expressed strong resentment over the statement made by the Education Minister on the floor of the House recently.

“The statement made by the Education Minister is not true since each and every school in the State has already submitted the UCs on a quarterly basis,” KJDSTA president M Nongslang said here on Thursday.

Stating that the teachers in the State will not accept this clarification given by Prof Laloo, Nongslang said that as per the information they have obtained through official sources, the delay in disbursement of salaries is to due to the unavailability of funds.

The associations have also demanded disbursement of all pending salaries of the school teachers for both deficit and ad hoc schools within March 26.
