M’laya’s first woman CJ to take oath today

SHILLONG: Matrilineal Meghalaya is set to get its first woman Chief Justice with Justice T Meena Kumari all set to take oath as the first Chief Justice of the Shillong High Court on Saturday.

Justice Meena Kumari, a Judge of the Patna High Court, will be sworn-in by Governor RS Mooshahary at Raj Bhavan at 11 AM.

Justice Meena Kumari, a Science graduate, obtained her law degree from Osmania University and enrolled as an Advocate in the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh and started practicing as an Advocate of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 7, 1976.

She was Standing Counsel to the Andhra Pradesh Dairy Development Corporation, Hyderabad, and the Andhra Pradesh Residential Educational Institutions Society, Hyderabad and also worked as an Assistant Government Pleader from 1981 to 1984. She has also worked as Junior Standing Counsel for the Income-Tax Department in High Court of Andhra Pradesh from 1988 to 1989. She was transferred to the Patna High Court in the year 2010.
