Shillong: The North Eastern region will see its first beer producing unit with German collaboration being inaugurated on Sunday.

CMJ Breweries Pvt Ltd with technical collaboration from Germany is now producing 5 variants of beer known as MAGPIE LAGER – a light refreshing beer, the NUTCRACKER – a Premium strong beer, and the SAVAGE – a Super Strong beer.

Consumers can now buy fresh world class beer produced from the finest malt and hops in Meghalaya aptly known as Scotland of the East.

Meghalaya now has a state of the art unit which is collaborating with the Konig Ludwig of Bavaria, Germany known to be the masters in beer brewing across the world.

This unit is also the first in India to produce German purity beer, the highly famous premium brands from the stable of Konig Ludwig of Bavaria known as ‘KALTENBERG LAGER’ and ‘KALTENBERG PREMIUM STRONG’ beer. The ingredients for this beer come all the way from Germany and are produced as per German purity laws which are the strictest all over the world.

These brands of beer have been projected as a Malt energy drink as it is produced from the finest malt and hops etc and fermented in its natural state to produce smooth and rich beer.

Beer is primarily manufactured from barley malt and Meghalaya has huge potentials to grow barley. The promoters plan to educate the farmers to grow barley as an additional crop to boost their earnings.

This unit is a pride for Meghalaya and the envy of other States, say the promoters of the brewery located at the Export Promotional Industrial Park (EPIP), Byrnihat.
