178th Raising Day celebrated

 SHILLONG: The Assam Rifles celebrated its 178th Raising Day at Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, Laitkor on Sunday.

The ceremony commenced with a Wreath Laying Ceremony to pay homage to the valiant ‘Martyrs’ of the Assam Rifles, followed by a Special Sainik Sammelan addressed by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Director General Assam Rifles and culminated with a ‘Bara Khana’ for the troops and families of the Force.

Since its beginning in 1835, with just 750 Combatants, the Assam Rifles, has metamorphosed into 46 Battalions and is the oldest Paramilitary Force of the Nation. During the past 178 years, the Force has rendered yeomen service through gallant acts, unflinching commitment and sacrifices.
