SHILLONG: The Single Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has directed the State Government to submit the status of the inquiry report on the shooting incident at Williamnagar District Jail within four weeks.

Chief Justice T Meena Kumari directed the government on the same after hearing the writ petition filed by GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma on Tuesday.

The GNLA chairman had filed the writ petition as the previous FIR filed by him on the matter was not forwarded, sources said, while adding that Champion handed over the FIR copy to the Superintendent of Prison for forwarding it to the police.

Champion, in his FIR, had questioned the decision of DG (Prison) Kulbir Krishan to transfer the former assistant jailor of Shillong District Jail, late Neil Warjri, who died after the militants stormed the district jail on February 2. As per the FIR, it was irrational on the part of Krishan to transfer late Warjri to the district jail in Garo Hills.

“It is crystal clear that the DGP (Prison) had personal grudge against Warjri which prompted this transfer,” sources said while quoting the FIR.

It may be mentioned that soon after the jail attack incident, the banned Garo outfit GNLA had blamed former Meghalaya DGP (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan for the death of staff.
