Three drown

 SHILLONG: Three persons lost their lives when they drowned at river Umsawli here on Wednesday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Rajiv Tamang (24) and Vijay Jogi (21) of Mawpun, Golflink and Suraj Kawar (19) of Paltan Bazar.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that the youths were drowned at 4.30 pm and the Fire service managed to retrieve the bodies at 8.30 pm at night.

He also informed that the three youths had gone to the river for picnic on the occasion of Holi.

The incident follows a similar tragedy at Sweet Falls where an IIM, Shillong student had drowned earlier this month.
