SHILLONG: The NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai has ‘left it to the wisdom of the party High Command’ on whether to retain the post of Deputy Speaker.

There were reports that Shullai is likely to be elected as the Deputy Speaker for the second term.

The election for the post is scheduled for April 18.

Speaking to The Shillong Times on Thursday, Shullai said that it was also up to the collective leadership of the MUA government and

the CLP to finally decide on the post of Deputy Speaker.

The Congress led MUA-II is supported by the two-member NCP and as many as 12 Independents.

Marthon Sangma from NCP has already been accommodated as Parliamentary Secretary in charge Forest.

According to Shullai, the decision to support the Congress-led government in the State was taken by the Central leaders of both NCP and Congress as similar coalition is working well at the Centre and in Maharashtra.
