JOWAI: In a new political development in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), Chief Executive Member (CEM) Lamdibok Sumer was forced to step down on Monday, following a directive from the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
JHADC Chairman Obil Kyndait informed that Sumer tendered his resignation at around 12:30 Pm on Monday.
Source informed that the MPCC had summoned all Congress MDCs of the JHADC including Sumer and had asked him to step down.
“At the MPCC meeting, Deputy Chief Minister and Jowai MLA Prof RC Laloo questioned Sumer for inducting Independent members into the Executive Committee without the concern of either the MPCC or the Congress MDCs,” sources informed, while adding that Independent MDC Moonlight Pariat had been inducted as Chairman of the District Council Planning Board.
“That was his (Sumer’s) only mistake,” the source added.
Sources also informed that the MPCC has summoned all the Congress MDCs on Tuesday to elect the new CEM from among Amwi Khliehtyrshi, MB Rymbai and JU Nongrum, who are the frontrunners for the post.
In may be mentioned that recently some Congress MDCs under the leadership of MB Rymbai had unsuccessfully attempted to topple the Lamdibok-led Executive Committee.
