Imphal: Twenty four Manipur police officers, who seized drugs worth Rs 24 crore in February from six persons including former army colonel Ajay Chaudhury, will be given an award of Rs 10 lakh, state Home Minister Gaikhangam said on Tuesday.

The decision to give the award to the commandos, who are attached to Thoubal district police, was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Monday evening, the Minister told reporters here.

The state government has also written to the Union Home Minister recommending a CBI probe into the case, he said, adding that the issue had also been brought to the notice of Prime Minister Manmohon Singh.

Five persons including Chaudhury were arrested by the commandos while they were carrying the drugs to the border town of Moreh for smuggling them to neighbouring Myanmar on February 24. Following interrogation, Seikholen Haokip, son of Congress MLA T N Haokip, was also arrested. (PTI)
