Threat of agitation by staff over non-payment of salaries

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The State Government and officials of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) seem to be in the dark about the issue of alleged threat by the employees to resort to agitations over non-payment of their salaries.

The Shillong Times on Wednesday called up different rank officers and the Transport Minister to get their response on the non-payment of salaries, but none of them could give any specific reply.

Transport Minister HDR Lyngdoh said he was not aware of any threat by the employees as he had been out of station and reached Shillong only on Tuesday night.

“I will take up the matter with my officers tomorrow,” Lyngdoh said.

The Principal Secretary, Transport department, did not pick up the phone despite repeated attempts.

The Secretary, Transport department, when contacted, expressed his inability to comment on the issue.

All attempts to contact the Commissioner of Transport also failed as she did not pick up the phone.

The AGM (Operations) of MTC also refused to comment anything on the matter.

It is learnt that the MTC employees have asked the State Government release their five months’ pending salaries before April 10 and have threatened to resort to agitations on non-compliance.
