SHILLONG: The re-assembled budget session which will commence from Monday, will function without the Leader of Opposition in the House.
Assembly Speaker AT Mondal on Thursday said he is yet to take a decision on appointing the Leader of the Opposition.
Earlier, during the first part of the budget session, the Opposition members had asked the Speaker to appoint a Leader of Opposition and also to recognize the Meghalaya People’s Front, the Opposition alliance in the House.
However, the recognition was not awarded since the UDP with eight members fell short of two seats as 10 members (one-sixth of the total strength of the House) are required for recognition of the Opposition alliance and for election of the Leader of Opposition from the same party.
The UDP has projected party president Dr Donkupar Roy as the Leader of Opposition.
