JOWAI: In a bid to improve the facilities at the Mynso village market which caters to the needs of more than 10 adjacent villages, the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the market sheds on Wednesday.
The Meghalaya Rural Development Society DMU-Jaintia Hills financed Rs 4.5 lakh for the construction of the sheds while another Rs 50,000 was contributed by the community.
Adressing the gathering, Dkhar stressed on the urgent need for waste management, proper sanitation and portable water facility in the market.
He also lauded the initiative taken up by the MRDS for the development of the area besides emphasizing the need for collaborative endeavor of other government departments for the welfare of the oldest market place of the district.
Mynso market known as Ka Iaw Ryngkat Mynso is believed to be created during the times of the erstwhile Jaintiapur kingdom, which was later conquered by the British.
The market is jointly managed by the Local Dorbar and Seinraj Mynso.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also laid the foundation stone for the Community Hall at Mynso A village, also on Wednesday.
