SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills, W Khyllep on Wednesday urged the district officers to come up with innovative plans for their respective departments to accelerate growth of the district.
Addressing the district heads of offices during the District Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting in his office chamber on Wednesday, Khyllep said that the district should have a growth rate of 12 to 15 per cent in order to catch up with the rest of the country.
“To achieve this, the district officials must come up with creative and innovative schemes,” he said.
Stating that easy road communication is a must for development, Khyllep stressed on the need to make all roads motorable. He also asked the PWD (Roads) to look for possibilities to create new roads which can be constructed ‘cycle by cycle.’
He also asked concerned officers to take up the up gradation of their offices to a district level with the respective higher authorities.
Pointing out that some shops and business establishments in the district were still putting up signboards bearing the name of East Garo Hills, Khyllep urged the concerned officials to ensure that all shops, offices and institutions make the necessary changes. He also insisted that all DDOs, who were still drawing their bills from Williamnagar Treasury Office, must draw the bills from Resubelpara Treasury from April onwards.
On the issue of water scarcity, the meeting was informed by the PHE that the main cause of water shortage was the drying up of catchment area and in this connection the meeting decided to form a water management committee with the Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman to work out the solutions. The committee would meet on April 16 next to discuss and chalk out strategies to prevent water crisis.
