JOWAI: A spring situated near the Assam Fifth Battalion camp at Sonitilla hill near Haflong in Assam’s Dima Haso district is attracting hundreds of people from neighbouring areas.

Water from the spring is believed to have healing powers strong enough to cure body ache, skin diseases, leprosy and even cancer.

The ‘miraculous spring’ which is of the size of a scooter wheel is attracting people from Assam and parts of West Jaintia Hills and the place has now become sacred to both the Christians and Hindus.

In just a month’s time, the news of the ‘miraculous spring’ that heals any kind of disease has spread to many parts of Assam including Sibsagar, Nagaon and parts of West Jaintia Hills like Iooksi, Saphai, Shangpung and adjoining villages.

People from Shangpung, Khliehriat and many other villages visited the place as soon they came to know about the healing properties of the water from the spring.

A woman, Ailis Dhar from Saphai village who is a frequent visitor to the spring told media persons that thousands of people collect water from the spring every day.

“One of our family friends in Haflong who was suffering from a kidney ailment was cured by the water from the spring,” Dhar claimed.

Dhar further claimed that she was cured of a ten year old chest and skin problem by the ‘miraculous water’ of the spring.

Dhar also said that many people from the area, including those who suffered from epilepsy from Shangpung, Iooksi, Saphai village and other adjoining villages were cured after taking bath with and drinking the water from the spring.

To confirm what has been told by Ai to media persons here, this correspondent along with some other scribes visited Iooksi village where they met an old man, Basbiwel Manner (65), who was bedridden for more than four months.

Manner was admitted to hospitals in Jowai and Shillong but his health worsened.

His wife, Meris Tangliang happened to hear about the spring water and took him there.

What followed was a miraculous recovery for the old man, claimed the family.

According to Manner, every day at least two tourist vehicles (Tata Sumo) ply from Iooksi to Haflong to visit the spring.

The spring has been taken over by the Presbyterian Church and its members distribute the spring water to the people.
