Imphal: The Committee for Implementation of Inner Line Permit System on Friday said it would resume its stir for implementation of the ILP system in Manipur to protect identities of the indigenous people.
The CIILPS, which had earlier suspended the agitation following assurance of a positive response from the government, said it’s agitation would be democratic in nature.
Representatives of the CIILPS and political leaders of different parties had already taken up the issue with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on November 23, 2012, and again on January 16, but Singh has refrained from taking any effective step in this regard, a statement by the Committee said.
Official sources said the state Assembly had passed a resolution urging the Centre to implement the ILP system early last year, but the state government was yet to receive a concrete reply from the Centre. The sources said that outsiders such as labourers, manual workers and petty businessmen have already outnumbered indigenous people in the hill districts of the state. (PTI)
