JOWAI: Madonbai Rymbai was on Friday unanimously elected the new Chief Executive member (CEM) of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) at a special session summoned by Governor RS Mooshahary and attended by all 30 members including nominated members of the House.

JHADC Chairman Obil Kyndait made the announcement regarding Rymbai’s election as the JHADC Chief unopposed since no other MDC was in the contest.

Immediately after the session, the new CEM, while speaking to media persons, pledged to address the financial crisis that has been affecting the District Council for long. “Illegal appointments are the main cause of financial crisis in the JHADC,” Rymbai said, adding that such illegal appointments would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.

During the felicitation of the newly elected JHADC chief, members of the House urged Rymbai to serve the Council in a better way and also to treat all members equally without any partiality. “The JHADC is facing acute financial crisis from time to time. Employees fail to get their regular salary and members of the House cannot procure their MDC schemes,” Opposition member Moonlight Pariat said, while adding, “I wish the new CEM would select the best team to lift up the District Council.”

Prior to his election as the CEM, Rymbai, a two-time MDC, was the Member in charge of Civil Works Department, Market Department and had been also been elected JHADC Deputy Chief on an earlier occasion.
