SHILLONG/TURA: An enquiry has been ordered into the sudden disappearance of a private finance company, Jeevan Suraksha Bank in West Garo Hills after duping many customers.
The matter came to light only after complaints were lodged with the police against this private finance company in West Garo Hills for its involvement in cheating the people of thousands of rupees and running away.
“Alerts have been sounded by the state government 5-6 months ago, when instructions were passed to all the Block Development Officers to spread awareness to the people on the increasing trend of fake banks and finance companies”, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner said on Friday.
Unfortunately, the people of Garo Hills were being led by the nose and they were hardly hit when the so called bank sudden disappeared with their money.
After the Jeevan Suraksha Bank’s sudden disappearance and was nowhere to be found leaving many of its customers in a helpless situation, the customers of the bank have urged all the NGOs of Garo Hills to help them and also to prevent such fraud banks from cheating the people again.
According to the customers of the said Bank, many people of Garo Hills had deposited their money in the bank only to be cheated out of their hard earnings and most of them are small time shop owners.
Initially, the Manager and agents of the Bank deceived the people into depositing their money in the bank by promising to give an interest of Rs 7 for Rs 100 each.
The customers also alleged that the bank manager who is a local has brought a new vehicle with the money of the people and in the past had even bragged of getting a fat salary of Rs 50,000 per month.
Having experienced the bitter taste of falling victims of a swindling racket, the customers of the Jeevan Suraksha bank urged the people of the region to be careful and never to trust any such banks or agents until and unless they can be sure of its genuineness.
The upset customers of Jeevan Suraksha Bank have also appealed all the NGOs of Garo Hills to help us in attaining justice which has been evading us for many months past.
“Details of the company and the exact amount robbed by this said company will only be available after reports of the enquiry is completed”, Bakshi said.
He also informed that another such incident where hundreds of people were duped by a private finance company was reported from the plain belt areas of Garo Hills while adding that the matter has been taken up by the police to trace the whereabouts of the company.
