SHILLONG: The UDP-led Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) is scheduled to meet Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal on Monday to demand the recognition of its alliance as the official Opposition in the current House.

“We are taking up the matter with Mondal on Monday. We would like the Assembly Speaker to recognise the MPF as the official opposition immediately,” UDP spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh informed here on Saturday.

Lyngdoh said that they would also demand the Speaker to recognize senior

UDP leader Dr Donkupar Roy as the Opposition leader.

It may be mentioned that the recognition was not awarded since the UDP with eight members fell short of two seats as 10 members (one-sixth of the total strength of the House) are required for recognition of the Opposition alliance and for election of the Leader of Opposition from the same party.
