SHILLONG: In consultation with the local Dorbar Shnong, the elders of Laitumkhrah locality have called for a total shutdown of all shops and other business establishments in Laitumkhrah on April 9 in condemnation of the violence during the KSU sponsored Khasi Awakening Day rally last Thursday.

“The ugly events which had occurred on the evening of April 4 have sent a shockwave among the residents, traders and shopkeepers of Laitumkhrah,” the elders of the locality said in a statement on Sunday while informing of the April 9 shutdown.

The elders also said that the shutdown will send a strong message to the district administration and the perpetrators that the traders and shopkeepers are standing united against the atrocities.

“We would also like to show that the people of Laitumkhrah will always co-exist peacefully,” the elders said.

Local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has also supported the decision of the elders of the locality.
