SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Federation of the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Revenue Minister Prof RC Laloo seeking the status of the transfer of defence land to the State Government or the rightful owners in the city.

Drawing the attention to the acute traffic congestion in Shillong, the two organizations have asked the government to give a clear picture as far as transfer of certain plots of defence land to the state government is concerned.

“We also urged the government to give details of the plot of land near Lukier Road, reportedly held by one J N Bawri”, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said in a statement issued here on Monday.
