SHILLONG: Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Tuesday said that the magisterial probe into the killing of three ANVC (B) cadres will be completed within 30 days.

Replying to a call attention motion moved by Clifford Marak (GNC) on the killing of three ANVC (B) cadres at Dobu on March 9, the Home Minister said that after the incident, a case was registered and subsequently a magisterial inquiry was ordered.

Earlier, moving the motion, Marak said that while the cadres of ANVC (B) are very often targeted by the police, the top leaders of ANVC (B) including the chairman and commander-in-chief are roaming freely.

However, the Home Minister said the issues raised by Marak will be examined.

Narrating the incident, the Home Minister said that police on March 9 raided the house of one Sengkut Sangma at Dobu Chittingbang village.

On inquiry, Sangma and his wife, Sumila Marak, revealed that the militants used to come to their house only for lunch and dinner. Police later shifted the couple and waited for the arrival of the militants.

At 6.30 am, four unidentified persons appeared from the jungle and proceeded towards the house.

“On entering the house, the militants had been asked by the police to surrender, but instead they started firing which resulted in the encounter,” Warjri said.

After search, police recovered three bodies while the fourth militant managed to escape.

While one of the deceased was identified as Mark Basal N Marak of Chiokgre village, the other two are yet to be identified. Police also recovered arms and ammunition from the site.

According to Warjri, the documents recovered from the encounter site revealed that the militants belonged to the ANVC (B).
