Mentally-ill woman gang-raped, 4 held

NONGSTOIN: A 27-year-old mentally challenged woman was gang-raped by four persons in Nongstoin on Tuesday.

Sources informed that the perpetrators – Khlangingwell Margnar (23), his brother Drastar Margnar (30), Damian Kharbani (27) and Kwidolin Iawphniaw (28) of Jaidoh village – were nabbed by the local residents on Wednesday and produced before the village authorities who handed them over to Nongstoin police.

Narrating details of the incident, sources said that on Tuesday at around 9 PM, Khlangingwell who was driving around in his vehicle (ML 10 – 2508), spotted the woman near Jaidoh taxi stand. He tactfully managed to lead the woman into his vehicle and then drove to his rented house at Spengthawlangmlah in New Nongstoin. He then quickly called his two friends and his brother and all four began drinking and even forced the woman to drink. Later they took turns to rape her throughout the night. At around 5 AM on Wednesday, the victim managed to escape and reached her home where she narrated the entire incident to her husband and her parents. She also led them to the house where the crime had been committed. The family members then nabbed the accused and produced them before the headman of the locality where they confessed to the crime.

Later, they were handed over to Nongstoin Police.

Meawhile, the Jaidoh Village Council and the Spengthawlangmlah locality condemned the rape of the mentally-challenged woman and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
