SHILLONG: PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that the total outstanding amount payable to the contractors across the State is Rs 227.90 crore.

Replying to a question raised by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Friday, Dhar said that a total amount of Rs 114.16 crore is pending from the Plan schemes while a total amount of Rs 113.74 crore is pending from the Non-Plan schemes.

To another question raised by Lyngdoh on whether the Government intends to set up toll gates for collection of revenue from various important commercially viable roads in order to improve its financial position, the PWD Minister said that the department would examine the proposal.

When NPP legislator James K Sangma asked on the reasons which had led to the huge accumulation of outstanding bills, he said that the huge pending bills is because of the sanction of many new works and also for taking up the maintenance work of the existing roads.

Replying to a supplementary question on the bank of sanction of the department, he said that the present bank of sanction of the department is Rs 164.86 crore.

“So far the department has received payment proposal for Rs 64.90 crore out of the total amount in the bank of sanction,” the PWD Minister said.
