SHILLONG: The Fire Service Day was on Sunday observed by the State Fire Service by parading throughout the city creating awareness among the people on the safety measures to prevent fire and also on the preventive steps to tackle when a fire broke out.

Driving around the streets of Shillong in their red Fire Brigade, the fire servicemen walked side by side and distributed pamphlets to the public informing them of the various safety measures to be undertaken to prevent any fire incident while asking them to alert fire control during accidents, rescue and rehabilitation operations and on putting out flames.

April 14 is observed throughout the country as Fire Services day to pay homage to the gallant firemen who died during the great Bombay docks explosions on April14, 1944.
