SHILLONG: The State Government will provide Rs 7.5 lakh each instead of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of the two slain staff of Williamnagar Jail – Neil Warji and SS Thabah.

Home Minister Roshan Warjri had, recently, stated in the Assembly that the Government would release Rs 1 lakh each as ex gratia payment to the family members of the two slain jail staff.

However, Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on Sunday said that the Government will release the entire amount of Rs 7.5 lakh each.

“The announcement of Rs 1 lakh made by the Home Minister will be the first installment,” the Chief Secretary clarified.

He also said that the next of kin of late Warjri and Thabah will also avail family pension as promised by the Government.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary had himself informed that the State Government will pay Rs 7.5 lakh as ex gratia for the slain jail staff, but the Home Minister, had, on Friday stated in the Assembly that only Rs 1 lakh each would be paid.
