SHILLONG: The Director of Lynchpin, Kaushik Barua has informed that Lynchpin Exhibitions, the organizers and the owners of the brand “Edufest” and “Edu-Options” started discussions with the Khasi Student Unions (KSU) on measures to stop the proliferation of other exhibitions which use dubious methods to fool students of the region.
It may be mentioned that the Khasi Student Union has recently urged the State Government to take appropriate action against fake “Edufests” mushrooming around the State and duping students as reported.
The Director also said that only accredited institutes are allowed to participate in the Edu-fest and their accreditations are cross checked.
He also said that no agents of institutes are allowed to participate in Lynchpin exhibitions.
According to Barua, a lot of fake fairs with similar sounding names of Edufest are organized and these agents sit in stalls masquerading as colleges administrators and misguide students.
“Students and parents should check if the email id of the concerned person is of the college university domain or not. Students should also call the college numbers after cross checking on the internet and ask about the concerned person and than make a decision,” he said.
He said that the idea of Lynchpin was also to make create a platform which enabled students and parents to have access to genuine information and make an informed decision, while earlier they relied on third parties like neighbours, friends, family, peers and agents.
“Lynchpin takes responsibility of the veracity of the accreditations of the colleges that participate in their exhibitions,” he added.
