SHILLONG: Desert is the best place for the armed forces to stay instead of encroaching into Shillong, HSPDP legislator HS Lyngdoh observed during Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Annoyed over the frequent acts of encroachment of defence forces into parts of the city, Lyngdoh said, “Army should take desert area for their stay. They can go to any vast land near Cherrapunjee and they can just sit there. After all they are not doing anything.”

Lyngdoh claimed that in 1991 when he was a Minister, he had driven away the armed forces from various parts of the city, but they came back again.

Lyngdoh wanted to know why the Army is encroaching into Shillong.

In his reply, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Revenue, Prof RC Laloo, said, “I require a notice on why Army is coming to Shillong.”
