SHILLONG: The Opposition has criticized Assembly Speaker AT Mondal for his policy of helping Ministers with their replies in the Assembly, while blaming Mondal for overstepping the role of the Speaker.
A few Opposition legislators said that they were unhappy over the style of functioning of the Speaker since he replies to the questions raised by the legislators on behalf of the Ministers.
“The Ministers should be well equipped to tackle the questions and the Speaker’s role should not be limited to giving answers on behalf of the Ministers,” they said.
According to them, Mondal, a former Power Minister, had replied to questions related to the power scenario during the Question Hour on Tuesday.
The questions were directed at Power Minister Clement Marak.
