Imphal: An insurgent of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has been arrested by police commandos during a combing operation in Imphal West district of Manipur, police said on Saturday.

The commandos, supported by para-military forces of 16th Assam Rifles battalion, launched a search operation at Sangakpham area on the outskirts of Imphal and arrested the militant identified as M Rojer Meitei (27) on Friday.

The insurgent confessed to the police that he had joined the outfit in 2009 and undergone training at camps located in Eastern Nagaland, Myanmar and Indo-Myanmar jungles, the police said.

Over 50 insurgents of different outfits have so far been arrested during various search operations in the state this year, the police said.

In another incident, suspected militants kept a powerful grenade at the toilet of a private clinic (Raj Polyclinic) near here yesterday, the police said.

The explosive was later removed and defused by bomb experts. No individual or group has claimed responsibility.

Police said they would investigate whether it was related to any monetary demand imposed on the clinic. (PTI)
