SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong Football Club’s Portuguese striker Edinho Junior has been selected by the Portuguese Football Federation to play for the National Under-19 team in an Under-19 International tournament at Porto from April 21 to 27.
Edinho Jr joined I-League club Shillong Lajong on loan from Blackburn Rovers in March 2013.
This marked the first ever loan transfer of a player from an international club of Blackburn Rovers’ stature to an Indian club.
He is a Portuguese national of Brazilian origin who moved to Blackburn Rovers from Olhanense.
The 18-year-old scored two goals for Shillong Lajong in his debut match against Pune FC last month and made a mark in India’s premier football tournament.
The centre-forward is the son of a former Brazilian international footballer, Edon do Amaral Neto.
