TIKRIKILLA: The Garo Students Union, Tikrikilla Regional Unit, Western Zone (North) expressed their dissatisfaction and concern over the construction of the new building complex of the Tikrikilla College and have urged the College’s governing body and the contractors to overcome their differences and work for the greater good of the student community.

The Ministry of DoNER approving the plan for the construction of the college building sanctioned Rs 537.72 lakh in the year 2006 through the government with certain guidelines and a time frame of 36 month for the completion of construction informed President GSU Tikrikilla Unit, Walseng N Sangma. Even though the construction work started in 2010, it is yet to be completed he stated and added that the quality of the work was also unsatisfactory.

The college governing body had awarded the construction work to one Tinker R Marak from Rangdokram in Baghmara, South Garo Hilss and sanctioned Rs 1000 lakhs for the first phase construction scheduled to be completed within 10 months.

The GSU maintained that the college’s governing body is partly to be blamed for not scrutinizing the construction work and finding out whether proper guidelines and norms are being followed by the contractors.

Concerned over the negligence by the governing body and the callousness of the contractors the GSU has urged them to work out their differences and commit themselves for the completion of the college building for the greater good of the region.
