SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to hand over all child rape cases to the fast track courts in the State for speedy disposal of justice.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi informed that such a direction has come to the district from the Law department, and indicated that this will be applicable all over the State.
Bakshi, who had undertaken a series of meetings on how to address crimes against women, said in a statement issued here on Friday that the district administration was committed to give continued emphasis and undivided attention to ensure justice in cases involving women and children and their exploitation and abuse.
Bakshi also said that Social Welfare Minister Deborah Ch Marak is also regularly seeking feedback from the district administration on the issue of safety of women and children and crimes against them.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that the slow progress of trial and interference of vested interests within the clans impeding the flow of justice will be followed up.
He said a District Level Convergence Committee for the Prevention of Crime against Women and Children had its meeting a few days back to discuss the issue.
He added that district administration will also take action on cases of domestic violence and allegations of irresponsible behaviour by some clan members, a woman police personal and some members of vested groups for which two inquiries are underway to nail the culprits and take action against them.
