Agartala: Tension gripped Tripura following the arrest of a man for raping and strangling to death a five-year-old girl on Thursday night.
Sanjit Saha (35) committed the crime in Chelagang area of Amarpur sub-division of Gomati district.
A local court sent the accused to police custody.
Police said daily wager Ajit Saha had gone to temple on the full-moon night to offer puja along with his daughter, a kindergarten student. Later, he went to a shop closeby leaving behind the girl.
Within minutes she came outside the temple to look for her father one Sanjit allegedly took her to a deserted place and raped and killed her. He threw the body in an abandoned well, Later Sanjit confessed to the police.
The victim was untraced till Friday morning when Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans found her body. (UNI)
