SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya, while disposing off a case filed by GNLA chief Champion R Sangma, cleared DG (Prison) Kulbir Krishan of all charges.

Champion had filed the case against the DG (Prison) blaming him for the death of two jail staff during the attack on Williamnagar jail on February 2.

The court has also directed the State Government to implement the suggestions made by the inquiry commission which had probed the attack.

Champion, through his lawyer, had filed a writ petition in the court on March 27 after the previous FIR filed by him on the matter was not followed up.

Soon after the matter was taken up in the court, the Single Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya had directed the State Government to submit the status of the inquiry report on the attack on Williamnagar District Jail within four weeks.

Sources said that the report was accordingly submitted before the court and various suggestions were made by the enquiry commission to further strengthen the jail security.
