SHILLONG: A fly over from the Civil Hospital junction to General’s Point will soon be a reality with the defence establishment agreeing in principle to hand over 0.339 square kilometer of land at Garrison Ground to the State Government.

Moreover, the forces also agreed to share the ground for any public function or rally.

Principal Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management), KS Kropha, told reporters on Friday that the Government received information from the Centre regarding the handing over of the land at Garrison ground.

Moreover, the Government also received clearance from Delhi regarding the handing over of 33 acres of land at Umroi for the expansion of the Shillong Airport.

However, the State Government has to hand over equal measure of land to the defence establishment.

A committee headed by Commissioner and Secretary (Home and Political), J Lyngdoh, has been entrusted with the task of identifying suitable land on the outskirts of Shillong to be handed over to the defence authorities.
