SHILLONG: With many names of ticket aspirants doing the rounds to contest the Lok Sabha polls, the former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope said that he is not in the race to contest for the Shillong seat.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Saturday, Pyngrope said that he is unhappy over reports appearing in a section of the press that he wanted to contest the polls.
At present, the ticket should be given to the sitting MP Vincent Pala as he has not expressed any desire not to contest the upcoming elections, Pyngrope said.
Earlier, during the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat, the name of Pyngrope had figured, but the consensus choice was senior leader Wansuk Syiem.
According to Pyngrope, the issue of selecting a different candidate on the part of the Congress arises only when the sitting MP opts out of the contest.
The Congress leader and Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh is making efforts to convince her brother, RG Lyngdoh,
to come back to the party fold, with an aim to rope him in to contest the Shillong seat.
Earlier, the UDP had sent feelers to RG Lyngdoh urging him to contest the Shillong seat on UDP ticket, but in vain.
