SHILLONG: The State BJP has made it clear that the party would field its candidate from Shillong for the Lok Sabha election scheduled next year.

BJP State unit general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty on Sunday said, “We are definitely going to the contest from Shillong seat.”

When asked about party’s plans to contest the Tura seat, Chakraborty replied that the National People’s Party (NPP) is now an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and arrangements have to be discussed and settled at the Central level.

To a query on the name of the candidate, he said that the party was working at the ground level to select the best candidate for the Shillong seat.

The NPP is set to field incumbent Agatha Sangma (NCP) from the Tura seat.
