SHILLONG: Assembly cashier F Khongwir has been placed under suspension after he allegedly misappropriated Rs 40.74 lakh from the Assembly.

When contacted, Assembly Secretary Hamelinda Mylliemngap informed that they first detected the misappropriation of funds in December last.

“The cashier had not misappropriated this huge amount in one go,” she said.

Mylliemngap informed that the cashier had siphoned off cash money from the Assembly office.

She also informed that the cashier has already admitted to his crime.

“We have placed him under suspension since February,” the Assembly Secretary informed, while adding that she had lodged an FIR with the police about a week ago.

When contacted, police informed that they have registered a case and started the investigation.
