Former state basketball player no more

 SHILLONG: Former State basketball player Suresh Lyndem, popularly known as ‘Maheh’, passed away after a prolong illness on Monday night.

Lyndem is among the few sports personalities in the State who was very active even after his retirement.

Maheh had represented Meghalaya in various national championships during the 1980s.

He was a member of the State basketball team that took part in the East Zone Basketball championship in Cuttack in 1982.

Not only as a player, Lyndem had been the head coach of the State basketball team at a number of national championships.

Maheh was also a member of the Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA) for some time.

Besides being a very talented basketball player, football was another sport that was very close to Maheh’s heart.

For his love and knowledge of football, he was appointed manager of the State football team for the North East Festival held in Tinsukia, Assam in 2001.
