SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Archery Sport Institute (KHASI) on Wednesday, brushed aside allegations leveled against them on illegal collection of fees from the bookies by the Hynniewtrep Archery Bookies Social and Cultural Association (HABSCA) terming such allegations as baseless and unfounded.
Defending their stance, the KHASI said that the funds including the ground fees collected from the bookies are not illegal and the archery is being conducted in a free and transparent atmosphere.
Recently, a bookies organization under the banner of the Hynniewtrep Archery Bookies Social and Cultural Association (HABSCA) has threatened to lodge a complaint against the KHASI for allegedly illegal collecting of funds and game making in the business.
Stating that daily funds collected are for the purpose of paying the monthly rent (Rs 6000) for the place used for conducting the archery, the KHASI claimed that all the bookies organizations have never objected on the funds collected by the KHASI.
The KHASI is the organizing body looking after the archeries and there are bookies organizations including MABMWU, MATWA, KHBWA and HABSCA (formed only in 2010) are looking after welfare of the bookies.
On the alleged game making, the leaders said, “The shooting have been conducted in a transparent manner and is being witnessed by the organizations from the bookies as well as public.”
Informing that there are 50 shooters (stewards), they said, “These stewards belong to different organizations. While 24 are from the three organizations, 26 are from the KHASI.”
