JOWAI: A 68-year-old woman and her 28-year-old daughter were found murdered inside their house at Umsalait village in West Jaintia Hills on Wednesday morning.
The woman, Rimaya Rymbai, and her daughter, Hamioo Santa Rymbai, were residents of Umsalait village under Raliang Elaka.
“It seems that the killer first raped the daughter and later killed them both,” police sources said, adding that the victims were hit on their head with great force by a blunt object.
Police suspected that the incident took place on Tuesday night and the neighbours came to know of the incident only in the morning.
Sources informed that the aged woman was staying with her daughter and her 6-year-old grandson while her son-in-law was working in some other place in Jaintia Hills.
According to the village Secretary, Moring Dawa Shadap Manar, an LP school teacher at Umsalait village, was the first to see the bodies inside their house.
“The teacher reached the village at around 8:30 am when some boys along with the 6-year-old son of the victim (Hamioo) asked the teacher to see what had happened to his mother,” the village secretary said, adding that the teacher immediately informed the villagers and the secretary who later informed the police.
Police removed the body to Jowai Civil Hospital for post mortem examination which will be conducted on Thursday.
No breakthrough in Ri-Bhoi twin murder case
Police are yet to make any arrest in the murder of a couple at Nongbir-Lum village in Ri-Bhoi on Monday evening.
The couple identified as Bisha Wahlang and his wife Klitsimai Mawphniang was hacked to death by unknown miscreants while they were working in their field on Monday evening.
“From what we have collected, the couple didn’t have any animosity with anyone so to say that the murder was committed out of hatred is doubted at present,” police said, while adding that investigation was on.
