New Delhi: Leaders of the North East Students’ Organization (NESO), who met top leaders of all political parties here, said that they will continue their tirade against the land swap deal with Bangladesh since they feel it does not serve the interest of the region.

Addressing a press conference at the end of their visit here, Samuel B Jyrwa, Chairman of the NESO, said that the land swap deal with Bangladesh is not in the interest of the North Eastern region.

As per the agreement reached by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his last state visit to Dhaka both the countries would have exchanged land under adverse possession and in enclaves in the region.

The Prime Minister, however, had assured the NESO student leaders that the deal is in favour of the North East people and also those living in the bordering areas of both countries.

Samujjal Bhattacharya, Advisor to NESO, said that the student confederation’s views were also supported by the main opposition party BJP.

The student leaders also had a meeting with AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi and discussed pertinent issues including the illegal infiltration from neighbouring Bangladesh.
