SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal on Saturday halted the spot admission process of one Asian Institute of Nursing Education which was being conducted at Hotel Polo Towers here.

The Deputy Commissioner on Saturday morning received information that spot admissions were being conducted by one Asian Institute of Nursing Education at Hotel Polo Towers on May 11 and 12.

Taking serious note of it, Magistrate JD Suchiang was deputed to the spot to verify the antecedents of the institute.

On verification of the documents produced by the institute it was observed that spot admissions were being conducted for B.Sc and M.Sc Nursing courses for 2013. However, the institute could not produce any document of approval or affiliation from any university prompting the Deputy Commissioner to stop the spot admission process with immediate effect.

Goyal has also directed all institutes from outside the State to seek prior approval from the District Administration with all relevant documents to conduct any spot admissions in future.

The development assumes significance in view of the controversy shrouding CMJ University which has been accused of offering courses and awarding degrees without recognition.
